Development of fishing: PRECEL strengthens fishing infrastructure
As part of its activities, the Livestock Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PRECEL) in collaboration with the General Directorate of Fisheries Resources (DGRH), organized an activity to identify sites to house weighing centers/ landing stages, counters and a fish market for the benefit of fisheries resource stakeholders.
This activity is part of component 2 of the project which is “Development of climate-smart livestock infrastructure and value chains”.
For several days, the teams traveled through several regions of Burkina Faso in order to interact with local stakeholders and identify the sites of these infrastructures. This approach aims to encourage the involvement of all stakeholders in the choice of sites.
It was not only an opportunity for work but also for information and awareness raising among stakeholders on the infrastructure to be built.
At the end of the activity, a total of twenty-three (23) sites were selected to house these infrastructures. We notice :
- the construction and equipment of 10 weighing centers/unloading platforms
- the rehabilitation and equipment of 10 weighing centers/landing areas
- the construction and equipment of one (01) fish sales market in Ouagadougou
- the rehabilitation and equipment of two (02) fish sales counters in Tanghin and Koubri.
These infrastructures will help improve productivity, marketing and the development of fishery product value chains.
In addition to these infrastructures, several interventions related to fisheries resources are expected within the framework of PRECEL. These include, among other things, the strengthening of legal and regulatory frameworks in the fisheries sector, the construction of floating cages, the acquisition of fish feed, the acquisition of fry, etc.
