AGROPASTORAL AND FISHING OFFENSIVE 2023-2025: THE PRECEL ALONGSIDE A GOVERNMENT TEAM IN THE SAMANDENI DAM
The Livestock Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PRECEL) participated on Saturday August 10, 2024 in Samandéni, in the harvest of the first cycle of tilapia produced in the Samandéni dam. It was in the presence of a strong government delegation.
Leaving Ouagadougou on Friday August 9, 2024, the management unit of the Livestock Resilience and Competitiveness project (UGP/PRECEL) headed by the Coordinator, Dr Soumaila BITIBALE was alongside the Minister of Agriculture, of Animal and Fishery Resources, Commander Ismaël SOMBIE and his government peers, last Saturday August 10, 2024,for the harvest of the first cycle of tilapia produced in the Samandéni dam, in the Hauts-Bassins.
This initiative, which is part of the 2023-2025 agropastoral and fisheries offensive, aims to increase endogenous production in order to reduce imports and contribute to achieving food self-sufficiency in Burkina Faso. Four months after stocking in the floating cages, fifteen tonnes of fish were harvested for the first day out of a forecast of 100 tonnes.
The Minister of State, Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Government Spokesperson, Mr. Jean-Emmanuel OUEDRAOGO, speaking on behalf of the government, while welcoming the already satisfactory result, estimated that with such production, the country is moving inexorably towards its food sovereignty. He invited the population to increase the Presidential initiative for food sovereignty and all the actors involved to be more determined so that by the evening of 2025, the forecast of the production of 100 thousand tonnes of fish becomes a reality.
Note that fish is part of the seven (07) sectors targeted by the Livestock Resilience and Competitiveness Project.
